Privacy Policy
Smart CDL · Effective 1 August 2026
In short: Smart CDL has no servers and no accounts. Everything you enter — your name, your state, your study progress — is stored only on your own device. We do not collect it, we cannot see it, and it is never sent to us.
1. Who this covers
This policy applies to the Smart CDL mobile application ("the app"), published by SmartApps Studio. Questions: smart.apps.ca@gmail.com.
2. Information stored on your device
The app saves the following locally, in your device's private app storage, so it can remember where you left off:
- The name you enter during setup
- Your selected state, CDL class, and endorsement selections
- Study progress: completed topics, quiz and exam scores, and your last position in a topic
- Which in-app purchases you own
- App settings such as theme and auto-advance
This information never leaves your device. It is not transmitted to us or to any third party. We operate no server that receives it, and we have no way to access it.
3. Information we do not collect
The app contains no analytics, no advertising, no tracking or attribution SDKs, and no crash-reporting service. We do not build profiles, and there is nothing to sell or share because nothing is gathered in the first place.
4. When the app connects to the internet
The app works offline. It makes network requests in only three situations, none of which send us your information:
- Downloading a state CDL handbook. When you choose to download
a handbook, your device requests the PDF directly from that state's official
government website (for example
dmv.ny.gov). As with visiting any website, that agency's servers can see your IP address and standard request details. Their handling of that information is governed by their own privacy policies, not this one. - Loading fonts. The app uses the Lato typeface via Google Fonts, which may be fetched from Google's servers the first time you run the app and then cached on your device. This exposes your IP address to Google. See Google's privacy policy.
- Purchases. In-app purchases are processed entirely by Google Play. The app only asks Google Play which products you own. We never receive, see, or store your payment card, billing address, or Google account details.
5. Purchases
Smart CDL offers one-time purchases to unlock study content. These are not subscriptions and do not renew. Google Play handles payment, receipts, and refunds; refund requests are made through Google Play, not through us. Your purchases are tied to your Google account and can be restored on a new device via Settings → Restore purchases.
6. Permissions
The app requests only what it needs to function:
- Internet access — to download handbooks and communicate with Google Play
- Billing — to offer in-app purchases through Google Play
The app does not request access to your contacts, camera, microphone, photos, location, or files outside its own storage.
7. Children
Smart CDL is a study aid for commercial driver license tests, which require applicants to be at least 18 years old. The app is not directed to children, but we do not prohibit them from using it — it contains no harmful content, no ads, and no social features. And because the app collects no information from anyone, it collects no information from children either.
8. Deleting your information
Because your information exists only on your device, you control it completely:
- Settings → Reset progress clears your study history
- Uninstalling the app removes all stored data from your device
There is no account to close and no server-side copy for us to delete. Records of your purchases are held by Google Play under Google's own policies.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, the effective date above will be updated and the revised policy posted at this address before the change takes effect.
